In today's society it is hard to imagine going to work for very little wages, or even sending a child out to work. Imagine having to work in really poor conditions and every day is a health and safety hazard. Well, unfortunately these are daily routines for those who work in some transnational corporations (TNCs). The transnational corporations are 'firms which [have] the power to co-ordinate and control operations in more than one country, even if it does not own them' (Dickens, 1998:177, as cited in Macionis & Plummer, 2000:367).
