The Range of Ways in which Animals Obtain their Food Different animals obtain their food in many different ways. For example, spiders are well known for obtaining their food by trapping their prey in their webs. Insects are sometimes trapped in these complex webs, where the spider later collects them for food. Other spiders hunt for their food or lie in wait for it. Several spiders are also well camouflaged with their environment. Electric eels stun their prey with electric shocks, using their electricity producing organs. Several fish swim through the water with their mouths open, taking in any fish swimming by. When catching food, all animals have to use their senses to detect where their prey are. Sharks have an acute sense of smell, which enables them to detect the presence of minute quantities of substances such as blood, and are able to trace where it is. Another helpful...
