The founder of the modern Olympic movement Baron De Coubertin based much of the Olympic ideal on the public school sports system established in England during the 19th century. What elements are still evident in the Olympic games? The modern Olympic games today has 201 national Olympic delegations competing. The recent Olympics in Athens had 10,500 athletes, 2,500 judges, 5,500 trainers participating from a huge mixture of countries. As the travel industry has progressed so much from the Ancient games it allows more people to participate and unite together to compete in sport. Countries being brought together like this is exactly what De Coubertin wanted and started the game doing, this is still happening today. Not only the uniting of the coutries leads to world peace but conflict can be used through the games, rivalries between countries for instance take place in a sporting manna.
