Skill Acquisition Assignment 1 Introduction In this assignment I'll try to describe what skill and ability is. I'll also try and describe the differences between skill and ability with continuums and characteristics. Ability is the make up of an athlete, which we inherit from our parents. Abilities underpin and contribute to skills. Abilities can be essentially perceptual, essentially motor or a combination of both. Most abilities to do with action are a combination and are referred to as psychomotor abilities. At the present time there is no definitive list of psychomotor abilities. Kinaethesis The ability to detect information from within ourselves about our body's position. The 'feel' of a movement. Information comes from receptors in muscles, tendons, and joints. Gross Motor Ability Abilities using movement e.g. speed, flexibility, powers. Psychomotor Ability Abilities that involve processing information and then putting decisions into action e.g. reaction time, co-ordination, and spatial awareness Abilities are factors that put...
