As evidence that professional athletes are getting paid exorbitant amounts, those who criticize athletes' salaries would cite the fact that in 1996, Michael Jordan was paid 167.97 dollars per second to play basketball (Dickey). However, these who believe that the, "ridiculous salaries being paid to athletes these days...is a vivid reminder of how money is ruining professional sports" (Dickey), are ill informed of the rules of economics that govern the economy of the U.S.. After a crash course in the economic factors that determine players' salaries, the athletes' pay will seem less ludicrous and more reasonable. Athletes get paid the exact amount that the market delegates to them. The one underlying economic law that governs athletes' salaries is the
