Everything from getting out of bed, to doing the dishes requires motivation, or the task will simply not be undertook, and other stimulation is searched for. It is particularly important in sport and success often depends on how motivated you are to achieve your goals. The purpose of this paper was to look at the different types of motivation associated with a person's desire to participate and compete in their sport. A motivational profile of a competitive athlete was compiled from 3 questionnaires. This then allowed analysis of this person's participation motives, goal achievement orientation and measured the extent of their self-determined regulation, which were ultimately compared to relevant literature.
