Health and Fitness 12-11-02 There are five components to related fitness: Cardiovascular Endurance Sometimes known as Cardiovascular Stamina, this depends on the ability of the heart to pump blood and deliver oxygen to where it is needed. This also involves the lungs and respiratory system and the function of both systems together is called cardio respiratory endurance. This is a person's aerobic capacity (the ability to sustain prolonged activities such as running, swimming or rowing). The heart, lungs and blood vessels, to work efficient to achieve a good aerobic capacity. Muscular Endurance This is the ability of the muscles to contract over relatively long periods of time, without tiring. The two types of stamina are interrelated as the muscles need oxygen which is supplied by the cardiovascular system. This type of fitness is important for ordinary activities such as walking to work, or doing repetitive manual task in industry. In some highly
