Edward Jessop 22nd September 2003 Mr White- Discuss the Similarities and Differences between the Ancient games and the Modern games? The ancient games started in 776 B.C. in the city of Olympia which is country of Greece. The modern games started about 1000years later in 1896. The first modern Olympic Games were held in the city of Athens. The modern and the ancient games differed in many different ways, although there are many things that they did 1000 years ago that we still do today. The main change between the modern and ancient games is that the modern games have become mostly commercialised. This gives the games more money but can lead to corruption as in the 1996 Atlanta games. The ancient Olympics were rather different from the modern Games. There were fewer events, and only free men who spoke Greek could compete, instead of athletes from any country. Also, the games...
