Body systems and injuries Factors affecting health and fitness Body type There are three types of body types- Ectomorphs, are light boned and thin people, they have less muscle or fat than Mesomorph's and Endomorphs. Body types of an ectomorph are narrow shoulders, thin thighs, and thin narrow chest with slim hips. This body build do well in stamina sports like marathons, swimming and gymnastics. Mesomorph, have an average or muscular build. They have a medium or high proportion of fast twitch muscle fibres and if are active and fit are quick and agile in their movement. The shape of a Mesomorph is broad shoulders, strong forearms, strong thighs, and narrow hips. Ideal sports for these people are swimmers, footballers and sprinters. Endomorphs, heavily built above average strength, along with heavy muscle and bones with high proportion of fast twitching fibres. There build is bigger upper arms, wider hips and large thighs.
