The Effects of Divorce on Young Children and Adolescents. The purpose of this Special Focus Study is to examine the effects of divorce and parental separation on young children and whether this has any detrimental effects on the child at the time of separation and also if this has any effect when the child reaches adolescence. Primary research has been undertaken in the form of questionnaires with the parents of a nursery class of 36 children and interviews were also conducted with staff members, to ascertain their thoughts as to whether they had noticed any changes in the behaviour of children whose parents had recently separated or divorced. Secondary research has also been accessed in the form of books, journal articles and internet web pages.
