Zimbardo The Stanford Prison Experiment Conformity In Nineteen seventy one Professor Phillip Zimbardo a very highly respected Psychologist decided he would like to do an experiment on conformity and after hearing about the recent prison uprisings became interested in what it would mean Psychologically to be a prisoner and a guard. Zimbardo decided he would do a study on conformity and had the idea of simulating a prison to find out how people would internalise into their roles. Zimbardo did a lot of research and put his experiment to the British Psychological Society, Zimbardo got the go ahead and set about creating a simulated prison in the basement of the Stanford Psychology Building, there Zimbardo could observe his participants in their roles as prisoners and guards. Zimbardo had to pick his volunteers so he placed an advertisement for mature intelligent young men to be part of an experiment on conformity a prison life study...
