The Strenght's and Limitations of Milgrim's Work & the Contribution of his Research to Psychological Understanding Karen Lee Milgram's Study of Obedience Type of experiment: Milgram tested his hypothesis by using a Laboratory experiment. The aim of this experiment was to investigate what level of obedience would be shown when participants were told by an authority figure to administer electric shocks to another person. Participants: 40 males aged 20-50 were recruited through a newspaper advertisement, and paid $4.50 to participate in a study regarding of memory and learning at Yale University. The participants represented a large range of occupations, including, postal workers, high-school teachers, salesman, engineers and labourers. They were told the payment was simply for coming to the laboratory, regardless of what happened after they arrived. Procedure Used: Milgram created a make believe shock generator which looked very realistic. The generator had 30 switches marked clearly starting at 15 volts to a maximum of 450 volts. The...
