Abstract Research regarding whether psychology is common sense suggests that there are many misconceptions about psychology among individuals with limited exposure to the subject (Furnham, Callahan & Rawles 2003), This study aimed to explore whether undergraduate psychology students with a background in A-level psychology would outperform students without a background in psychology in a test of knowledge. Two T-tests regarding differences in actual scores and ability to predict scores between the two groups were performed as well as a correlational analysis to explore the relationship between estimates of confidence for performance and actual performance on a multiple-choice test. Results illustrated that the T-tests were significant, but the correlational analysis was non-significant. Further research should be conducted with a wider population to provide support for the results of the T-tests and also to investigate whether there is a relationship between predictions of performance and performance itself.
