Introduction Memory is the vital part of the brain we need to live a normal life. Without it we would wake up each morning forgetting everything we know and have learnt over our lives. Memory is the process of Encoding storing and then retrieving information in the brain, it is the central to learning and thinking. There are two parts to our memory which are known as the STM (short term memory) and the LTM (long term memory) these are the places where data we receive is placed and in most cases this will be the STM, but sometimes will then be transferred to the LTM. Things such as your birthday and other things you remember when you where a small child will be retrieved from your LTM while things like Telephone numbers you have been told which are usually placed in the STM may be forgotten.
