... Discussion As can be seen from the results there is clear evidence to show that there is indeed an ideal hip to shoulder ratio in men that women find attractive. The results show that there is a highly significant difference in the preferred ratio of hip to shoulder for men. Hypothesis 1 is therefore accepted, suggesting that women do have a perceptual preference in body shape for men and the ideal hip to shoulder ratio of men is indeed 1:1.5. This supports Pasquale and Vasquez's (2000) discovery that the most desirable waist to shoulder ratio in men is 2:1, showing that men with shoulders that are larger in proportion to the lower half of the body (be it waist or hip) are likely to be deemed more attractive by women than those without. In contrast, it was discovered from our results that those men with the straightest hip to shoulder ratio
