Biological Psychology Practical 1 Hemispheric Specialisation 2004/2005 Is Language Processing a Localised Function in the Left Hemisphere of the Brain? Abstract The issue under investigation is whether left hemisphere dominance exists for language processing. Twenty university students were asked to tap any key on a keyboard for 30 seconds under four conditions. The conditions were divided by handedness and whether participants were asked questions or not. It was found that participants tapped significantly more with their right hand than their left, and tapping rate reduced significantly for both hands when questions were being asked. The findings suggest that language processing is dominant in the left hemisphere. Introduction The brain consists of two halves; known as the left and right hemispheres.
