Psychology Project Investigation into attraction - is there a significant difference between intelligence and humour in what males find attractive in women? Abstract The experiment was undertaken on 30 males aged 16-18 who, previously to interruption by the experimenter, were working silently in a study library. They were asked to answer a questionnaire titled 'social behaviour'. A critical question was placed among eight other questions which wouldn't be studied. The aim was to find out what males preferred between humour and intelligence when looking at a potential love interest. The result found was that humour was more important, and that the results were significant at p<0.05. Background Hatfield et al carried out an experiment on 752 freshers at the University of Minnesota, and found that physical attractiveness proved to be the single most important factor that determined liking, for both males and females.
