Introduction I have been commissioned by the BPS to produce a report, which will be used to decide weather research into social influence should continue or be banned. There are many studies I am going to include e.g. Milgram's and Zimbardos. These studies along with many other studies break the ethical guidelines most important ones are consent/informed consent, deception, debriefing and protection of participants. Ethical problems of this research The most common study in social influence is Milgrams. His study involved participants who had to give electric shocks to what they thought was real humans. Here is where Milgram used deception he lies to his participants. They were also told it was a memory and learning study. So basically they were told the wrong information about the whole study. Milgram had different levels of shocks these ranged from 0 to 450 volts max. When participants were getting to the high shocks some wanted...
