Discuss theories of impression formation When we encounter a person or a situation we immediately form impressions on what this person or situation must be like and use it to assess the person or situation accordingly. There are many different ways in psychologists believe we do this. Such as: schemata, scripts, central and peripheral traits and the primacy and recency. A script is a template we hold in our brain about a type of person or situation. Scripts are built up trough our experiences and the knowledge we have gained through the experience of others. Sagar and Schofield carried out a study where they had a black person and a white person carrying out the same movement of bumping into another person.
