Discuss Psychological research, which has been carried out into interpersonal attraction Early research focused on the physical reasons for interpersonal attraction such as physical proximity and physical attractiveness. The main study that could be used to outline the "physical attractiveness" approach is Walster and Berschied (60's). In this study, participants at a social dance were randomly allocated a partner, the only condition being that no female was assigned a male partner who was shorter than she was. They were assigned ratings of "attractive", "average" and "ugly" by the experimenters before they were paired off. Then, after only two and a half hours, during the intermission, the participants were asked to fill out an "anonymous" questionnaire asking such things as; how attractive they found their date, whether they were likely to have another date with that person or not etc. Generally, the more physically attractive the date was, the higher their partner rated...
