Psychology and the Environment a) Describe what psychologists have found out about psychology and the environment. Psychologists have done many studies regarding personal space and territory. Definitions for personal space and territory have been defined and are as follows: Personal space: A "bubble" that surrounds us that we do not like people to trespass within. The bubble changes according to the situation we find ourselves in. It helps regulate interactions we have with other people. Territory: An area that you perceive you have ownership over. Fisher and Byrne investigated the gender differences in personal space invasion and the reactions to invasion. The experiment was conducted in a university library. A model "invader" simply came into the library and sat next to or opposite the subject and pretended to do some work and busy themselves.
