'Is There a Psychology of Love?' Love is something that is a part of almost everyone's life. Humans seem to function best when their emotional and sexual need are fulfilled in a love relationship, and love is also beneficial between parents and their offspring. As a result of love being such a large part of people's lives, it is natural that some people have tried to explain and understand it. Researchers have identified the origins of love, the different love styles, the basic types of love, and different theories of what love is. Rubin (1973) discussed the similarities between love and liking: both being attitudes that a person holds towards another person; both being packages of feelings, thoughts, and behavioural predispositions within a person.
