What is a child? At first, this sounds a very simple question; everybody knows what a child is. However where do these views come from and is there such a thing as a universal child. (1) Firstly, I will look at how the united convention of the rights of children and how it describes a child. Then using example from the three different approaches (block 1), I will describe how each answer the question, what is a child. The first approach is scientific and I will show how they use theories, to develop scientific facts about children. Secondly, socially constructionists approach. This aims to show how different "ideas" about children are socially constructed. It is their view that the "child" is an image created by "products of different world views" (pg10) Thirdly, the applied approach.
