There is an mental illness that affects one percent of the worlds population, there are 17million sufferers worldwide but this mental illness is still the most misunderstood. Schizophrenia, a severe group of psychotic disorders, leaving the individual with the inability to function. Research indicates there are many factors that will induce schizophrenia. This essay highlights and discusses the three main factors that have been linked to the causes of schizophrenia. The first theory strongly links 'Biological Factors' including brain abnormalities, brain structure and high levels of dopamine with schizophrenia. The second theory shows evidence of 'Genetic Relations' and hereditary predispositions in the development of schizophrenia. Finally, the essay will examine the 'Environmental Perspective'; the significance of unstable environments and stressful situations in relation to the causes of schizophrenia. Evidence and research conducted on 'Biological Perspective' considers and evaluates the differences between brain structure and brain biochemistry of a normal person...
