Select one aspect of child development (from cognitive, social, emotional or cultural). Compare and contrast at least two different perspectives on your selected area. Relate what you write to some examples from practice, making it clear what your emerging views are. The process through which children develop and mature is a fascinating subject to study. Within this piece of writing I aim to compare, contrast and critically evaluate the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky, who were both influential in forming a scientific approach to analysing the cognitive development process of the child's active construction of knowledge. I will relate the points raised by the theorists to the classroom and the implications for the teachers attempting to meet pupils varying needs. Some issues noted will be supported by personal experience gained whilst on school placement.
