Does attachment theory provide a sound basis for advice on how to bring up children? Attachment theory originated from the work of Psychiatrist, John Bowlby. and is a concept associated with the development of early relationships. In order to ascertain if theories of attachment provides a sound basis for advice on how to bring up children, different theories will be looked at, evaluated and concluded. Bowlby claimed that the strong emotional forming of bonds between an infant and one particular individual was a fundamental requirement of early relationships and the level of nurture, security and protection this brings can form the foundations for long-term psychological stability.
