Which Of Freud's Insights is most important to contemporary psychology and why? The work of Sigmund Freud has influenced modern psychology to an enormous degree. A large majority of contemporary personality theories were either constructed as a reaction against, or a development of, Freud's psychoanalytical theories. Much of Freud's work has been dismissed as it is unscientific, out-dated and largely based on hypotheses. There are however several of Freud's insights which are still relevant now. In this essay I will consider Freud's main insights and their significance regarding contemporary psychology. Finally I will select one of these insights and explain why I feel it is the most relevant to personality psychology today.
