Which Of Freud's Insights is most important to contemporary psychology and why? The work of Sigmund Freud has influenced modern psychology to an enormous degree. A large majority of contemporary personality theories were either constructed as a reaction against, or a development of, Freud's psychoanalytical theories. Much of Freud's work has been dismissed as it is unscientific, out-dated and largely based on hypotheses. There are however several of Freud's insights which are still relevant now. In this essay I will consider Freud's main insights and their significance regarding contemporary psychology. Finally I will select one of these insights and explain why I feel it is the most relevant to personality psychology today. One of the main problems with relating Freud's insights to modern psychology is the complete lack of scientific evidence. Psychology no longer relies on personal opinions and guess work.
