What is cognitive neuropsychology? Illustrate with reference to one topic in the field of language. Neuropsychology is the study of the relationship between brain and behaviour (Ellis & Young, 1997). The main aim of neuropsychology is to understand functional and structural properties of the brain by using detailed behavioural analysis. Cognitive neuropsychology (CN) is a branch of cognitive psychology in which cognitive processes are determined by intrinsic function and structure of the neural system (Ellis & Young, 1997; Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 1998). CN adopt an information processing view of mental faculties, in an attempt to explain behavioural disorders that result form specific information processing units with some degree of reference to anatomical correlates (Ellis & Young, 1997; Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 1998). In other words, CN aims to understand information processing from the subserving neural components. The topic in language I have chosen as the focus of this essay is bilingualism....
