Outline and evaluate an alternative to the multi-store model An alternative to the multi-store model is the working memory model put forward by Baddeley and Hitch. There were two main reasons they put forward this model. They believed that the short term memory is much more useful in everyday life than was assumed by previous researchers. They also believed rehearsal needs to be included as one of the possible processes occurring in the short term memory which lead them to put forward the working model. The working memory model focuses on active processing of incoming information this model consists of three components: * The central executive which operates the short term memory. It processes incoming information and sends it to the appropriate 'slave' system (phonological loop or visuo-spatial sketchpad).
