Discuss the ways in which cognitive theory and research can be used by students to maximise the effectiveness of their study methods Cognitive psychology is concerned with "understanding the nature of human intelligence and how people think" (Anderson 1980).Being that it is such a broad area, in this essay I have chosen to relate research on memory processes and metacognition to how students can maximise the effectiveness of their study methods. A major area of research has been on research cognitive processing which is basically how information is stored and retrieved. This research has shown us the importance of helping students develop a well connected body of accessible knowledge.
