Trait Emotional intelligence and the relationship between Personality disorders, demographic variances and affective state dimensions in adolescents and young adults Abstract The relationship between personality disorders and emotional intelligence is limited in psychological literature. The current study attempts to determine whether personality disorder traits would be associated with the total trait EI scores, gender, age, affective state dimension (Positive affect and Negative affect), and sexual orientation. There was no significant difference between Trait EI, gender, age and sexual orientation. The results indicate that trait EI is significantly correlated with most of the personality disorders measured by IPDE, and a regression analysis indicated that IPDE and gender was a significant predictor of Trait EI. Affective state dimension (PA & NA), were highly associated with personality disorders. 1.
