Assignment Two: Essay: What is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder? The purpose of this writing is to attempt to answer the following questions: What is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder? What is it about an individual and about the context of the stressful experience that makes only some of the people exposed to such extreme stress go on to develop the disorder? The risk of exposure to trauma has been a part of the human condition since we evolved as a species. It has been documented as far back as 1666 following the Great Fire of London. For instance Shakespeare's Henry IV seems to meet many if not all of the diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder as have many other heroes and heroines throughout the World's history and literature (Whealin, J.M).
