Wembley Stadium and issues in Development Wembley is a unique and special part of London, where great sporting drama has been played out and where some of the country's largest cultural events are hosted. Wembley Stadium is recognised throughout the world as a symbol of sporting endeavour and a venue for some of the most prestigious sporting events in England. The development of the new National Stadium provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform Wembley and its surrounding communities. The project for the whole regeneration of Wembley is known as "Destination Wembley" (www.brent.gov.uk). Football stadia predominate in Europe and much of South America, owing to the popularity of the game in these countries (John and Sheard 200:11).
