Urban Deprivation is one of the characteristics of large cities in all parts of the world. How similar are the initiatives being undertaken for its reduction between cities in MEDW and LEDW. Urban Deprivation still exists in MEDWs and LEDWs to a lack of availability or access to housing, employment and services. However this may lead to multiple deprivation which is when all 3 occur. Deprivation is socially defined but is also spatial phenomenon for example inner cities in MEDCs such as Manchester and London Docklands. Also peripheral squatter settlements and central slums in LEDCs like Chennai in India and Egypt. Overall it would seem that the initiatives are quite a lot different in MEDCs and LEDCs. In MEDCs the initiatives aim to improve the status of the area by attracting investment, increase employment opportunites, improve services and housing and transport.
