Decode and analyse the conventions of the opening credits of Coronation Street The opening titles of a soap opera are a way of seeing what type of audience they are aimed at and also the music and images in the titles will connote what the soap itself should contain, while trying to attract new viewers. The titles for Coronation Street open showing a cobbled street surrounded by several terraced houses. This gives connotations of a northern industrial, working class town. Because of this, the town is given a traditional, old-fashioned feel, making it more appealing to a wider audience. In addition to the older housing and street layout, a more modern street with new housing is shown in contrast. This is to show that although the street is traditional and still has working class roots, it is also modern and has a class divide in the small area. The images...
