Design Principles and Applications assignment 2. Task 1 The advantages to the owner of the building is that the BMS would increase the rental value of the property. The BMS makes obvious power consumption and energy cost cuts meaning a reduced expense to the occupier in terms of running cost bills, but this cost would be balanced out by the increased cost in rent, which would be necessary by the owner to recoup the capital cost of the BMS system. It would also give the owner greater flexibility over the change of use that may occur in the building. With the BMS in place no changes would have to be made in order to accommodate other types of work (ie, changing from an office to a place of manual labour), within the building.
