Teresa Penkert 31st October 2003 Memories of New York We were in New York at last. My best friend Barbara and I had waited for this trip for many years, since before our children had been born. Now they were safely tucked away at home with our husbands and we were going to make the most of it. We promised ourselves that we would cram in as much as we could of "The Big Apple" and had been overwhelmed by Manhattan so far. First on our list was the Empire State Building, this is one of the main tourist attractions an impressive 102 storeys high. We joined the long queue; the first part of the journey up was in a high speed lift which elevated us up the eighty floors in less than a minute.
