Compare and comment upon Le Corbusier's vision of the architect versus Hannes Meyer's. In what are they similar and in what ways different? In addition to the readings derive your answer from the following housing schemes: Le Corbusier's Weissenhof housing in Stuttgart and Gropius' Toerten housing in Dessau. Le Corbusier's vision of an architect is that of a one that through a whole understanding on how people sense the world, will create an emotion within them that will make them experience "the sense of beauty". An architect will also create forms that realize "an order which is a pure creation of his spirit". On the other hand, he thinks that an engineer will achieve harmony with his creations. The difference between both is that an engineer will employ in a building, the materials and tools of his time, something architects at the time, had not practiced as much.
