Effect of Colonialism on Characterization in Midaq Alley and Season of Migration to the North Midaq Alley and Season of Migration to the North are set in a modernizing world full of change for the many old fashioned characters. The novels are established in different places at different times written by distinct authors, Naguib Mahfouz and Tayib Salih, each with his own opinion about the modernizing world. The characterization in the novels is similar and both authors are equally successful in depicting the effects of colonialism on their personal characteristics. The authors use dramatic irony in their novels to show tragic change in the characterization of the characters.
