The origin of the American dream is traditionally thought of as success, fame and fortune by applying- the term again- "...thrift and hard work". These values were held by many early European settlers and have been passed on to newer generations. The American Dream also describes an approach of hope and faith; people look forward to the citing of the goal. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby illustrates how the society lived during the Roaring 20's and how the American Dream is actually a distorted materialistic goal.
