En nuestra vida cotidiana, voluntariamente o no, sentimos y percibimos lo que tenemos a nuestro alrededor a través de nuestros órganos sensoriales, que pueden ser ojos, oídos, papilas gustativas, entre otros. Confiamos en lo que éstos nos transmiten, creemos que nos proporcionan una verdadera representación de la realidad y basamos nuestras acciones y conocimientos en lo que éstos nos transmiten. Sin embargo, muy pocas veces nos preguntamos en qué medida nos dan nuestros sentidos un conocimiento del mundo tal como es verdaderamente. ¿Nos transmiten una verdad objetiva del mundo? ¿Nos permiten a todos percibir lo mismo? ¿Qué puede provocar que distintos individuos perciban cosas distintas?
