This essay compares the effectiveness of emotion and reason in discovering the truth the ethics of cannibalism. When most people consider the act of cannibalism they suffer a wave of revulsion, which is undoubtedly emotion, but is reason more effective in exploring the ethics of cannibalism? This essay finds that, although most people resort to emotion, reason could be more effective, yet when it is assumed that cannibalism is wrong emotion becomes more effective as reason is unable to explain is some cases. There is much evidence that cannibalism once featured widely in early human history - certain immune effects only work after consuming human flesh - but towards recent times, cases have become increasingly rare.
