Othello's Role as a Dramatic Hero Many novels, books, and plays characterize a role of tragic hero to a character to give style. In the play "Othello" by William Shakespeare, Othello is a general in the state of Venice during the years of the late 16th Century. Othello is chosen to go into battle against the Turks. After the battle, lots of incidents take place which affects Othello's life. At the end of the playwright, Othello kill's himself because he cannot bear the pain of what is occurring around him. Othello plays the role of the tragic hero in the play through his intentions of pure good. His weakness as a person is being gullible. This leads Iago to manipulating him into believing that Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona. First, Othello is seen as a hero through being a general in an army and his victories in battles...
