Larisa Knyazeva Professor Hile English 2 23 October 2005 Bad side of Equality In "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut the author gives the reader an ironic possibility of government institution turning against human race in order to achieve a perfect equality by the means of technological evolution. The theme of absolute equality has been prevailing the modern society for many decades. People tried to gain a society where different people have the same status in a certain respect in every aspect of life. The obsession with equality, unfortunately in this story, has been achieved by handicapping the most intelligent, athletic or beautiful members of society. In "Harrison Bergeron", Kurt Vonnegut presents a view of a future society, where everyone is equal. "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else.
