"Without the social context, there could be no self". Discuss The greatest thing about human beings is our individuality. But this individuality, which we all aspire to, is relative and dependant on many variables.First let us look more deeply into definition of the 'self'. What is the 'self'? Since ancient times philosophers, thinkers, idealists etc, have all asked us to 'know thyself'. Our impressions of who and what we are, are pretty well defined by the time we reach a certain age and point in our lives.... We may consider ourselves witty, shy, confident, bold, and a host of other descriptions. But the question is, how do we form these opinions? Is it through some innate inborn instinct that provides a mirror image of who and what we are, or is it through interaction with others in society that we see ourselves as others see us? Could there be no self...
