NRM's are broad and because they are so broad the groups within them do have an appeal to everyone. However different groups do appear to have an appeal to particular sections so that when we look at different types of NRM we will find that their individual appeal is to particular groups. Many sociologists have looked at who joins NRM's and sects, often coming up with various suggestions as to why they join. One such suggestion is that of wanting to fill a spiritual void. With the increase evidence for secularisation, we see that people are falling away from established religions. For some they find their beliefs and acceptance of a higher being by experimenting in NRM's. Postmodernists say that as people started to turn to science during the industrial movement they left behind the established...
