'Men are naturally more violent than women. This explains male violence towards women'. Filling the need to reflect the opinions and experiences of women in society, feminism is challenging traditional sociological thinking by addressing issues of gender imbalance. Centuries of patriarchy have subordinated women to men reinforcing social acceptability of male domination. This essay, using sociological explanations, critically discusses patriarchy and its relationship with gender, sexuality, and violence. It examines the biological and social construction of each, and compares their influences and interactions. The results are analysed providing explanation for violence, particularly male violence, and why men are naturally more violent than women. Finally, this essay reveals that both gender and sexuality are products of social construction and that social and cultural ideologies are the causal events that lead to male violent behaviour.
