' Through the course of this essay I will focus on the film My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) which is written by Hanif Kureishi and directed by Stephen Frear. The film touches on themes of love, violence, entrepreneurship, hope, and hopelessness, community, race, class and, of course, Britain. It is a valuable film not only for its ability to entice and entertain, but most importantly for its value as a document of a moment in time. By deconstructing the film, we may be able to have an indication of the extent My Beautiful Laundrette reflects Britain's transition to a postcolonial society.
