What role does social class play in The Son's Veto? Every person in this story has a certain class, which is made clear by things they say and do. Sophy's husband is a higher class than her, because before they got married, Sophy was his maid. This shows that social class is significant in their relationship. I know that Mr Twycott is very high classed as he is a vicar and therefore he is obviously educated. Sophy is lower classed than her son and husband. The difference between her class and her son's is shown when her son corrects her by saying, "Has dear mother - not have!" The reason they got married starts from the fact that she quarrelled with Sam. After that a series of events including her injury, Mr Twycott asked her to marry him. She did not love but married him because, "She had respect...
