Unreal Stereotypes for Girls The theme of Marge Piercy's "Barbie Doll" is that women who try to fit themselves into the unreal stereotypes that our society asks to have. In our society, there are specific stereotypes what women should be look like, and how women should act. People try to infuse those ideas when a girl is born, and usually, girls follow those without doubt. The girl in the poem symbolizes women in our society who are infused by the stereotypes of how a girl should look like, and try to fit into that norm. The society divides things into two ways according to genders, and makes certain stereotypes for each gender. The girl in the poem was exposed to stereotypes of women since she was born. She was "presented dolls that did pee-pee and miniature GE stoves and irons and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy." Those toys...
